Israel and Iran have temporarily halted their recent exchange of military strikes following the most serious escalation in tensions since the ceasefire reached in April. Despite the pause in hostilities, both countries have warned that the situation remains fragile and that military action could resume if further provocations occur.

Iranian officials stated that their military operations have been suspended for now but would restart immediately if Israel continues its attacks. The warning came after several days of cross-border strikes that heightened fears of a wider regional conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended his country’s recent military actions, describing them as “historic strikes” aimed at preventing what he claimed was a potential Iranian nuclear threat. Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s position that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons and warned that additional Israeli strikes would follow if Tehran launched new attacks.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he had urged both sides to de-escalate the confrontation. Speaking to Israel’s Channel 12, Trump revealed that he had personally warned Netanyahu that Israel could find itself isolated if the conflict expanded into a full-scale war. According to Trump, he encouraged Israeli leaders to scale back their military operations to avoid a broader regional crisis.

Tensions intensified after Israel carried out extensive airstrikes on targets in Lebanon that it identified as Hezbollah positions. Tehran accused Washington of sharing responsibility for what it called Israeli violations of the ceasefire, arguing that the United States continues to support Israeli military actions in the region.

Iran responded to the Lebanese strikes with a new wave of retaliatory attacks against Israel. The exchange triggered further Israeli operations targeting locations across Iran. Reports indicated explosions in several major Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, and Karaj.

Israeli strikes also reportedly hit facilities connected to Iran’s energy sector, including the Karun Petrochemical Company located in the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone.

Although active fighting has paused, statements from both governments suggest that the risk of renewed conflict remains high, leaving regional stability uncertain in the coming days.
